3. Activity:   Write ideas about my topic and write those ideas with strong verbs to match my topic:

Write three ideas that support your topic sentence.  Then write those ideas in sentences with strong, active verbs.

Idea 1:  nutcrackers in a line

Write idea in a sentence with a strong verb:

Idea 2: Hannah stared at them.

Write idea in a sentence with a strong verb:

Hannah stared with wonder at each nutcracker.

Idea 3:  She rearranged them.

Write idea in a sentence with a strong verb:

She rearranged them by carefully holding and moving each character.

Nutcrackers

Hannah: Nutcracker Choreographer

 hannah

Hannah loved the nutcrackers displayed on the formal dining room table during our family Christmas. The tall nutcrackers stood at attention in rows like a Christmas dance team waiting on stage to perform. Little statues of holiday cheer, they faced forward, staring ahead, waiting for directions from the choreographer.  Hannah stomped into the dining room, licking fudge from her fingers. She stopped, captured by the bright red, black, green, and blue colors of the waiting performers. She stared with wonder at each nutcracker. Her eyes sparkled with delight. She began to direct an imaginary performance by carefully holding and moving each character into new places. She bounced the ballerina next to the hunter, all the while chattering in an imaginary conversation, seemingly directing each player on the stage through their acting debut. She played and gabbed with the colorful nutcrackers for many minutes as we all watched, silently smiling, from the kitchen until she suddenly turned, grinned, and dashed back for another piece of fudge. The performance ended.
