Page history last edited by Ms. Edwards 15 years, 6 months ago

General Rules

1) Keep conferences short (4-5 minutes)

2) Use conference areas or computer area (wiki/blog work)

3) Only one conference per writing period

4) No back-to-back conferences

5) Use soft voices

Role Set-up

1. Choose partners.

2. Sit side by side with paper or at computer

3. Author (writer) reads; Partner follows along

4. Read through section one time without comments

5. Read through second tome for partner comments (see below)

Role of Writer (Author)

1) Tell partner what kind of help is needed

2) Read the piece out loud to partner and listen to it

3) Consider the partner's response

4) What will you do next?

Role of Partner

1) Find out what kind of help the writer needs

2) Listen carefully to author reading and follow along

3) Start by telling the writer what works

4) Make a suggestion

Wiki/Blog Comments

1) Read the whole piece quickly

2) Read the whole piece carefully a second time

3) Comment politely with quotes on:

  • What works well in the piece
  • A possible suggestion

4) Keep it simple and solid

  • What did you like?  Relate it to the writing traits: ideas, word choice, organization, voice, sentence fluency.  Be positive with a specific example (use quotes).
  • Where did you have question?  Was something missing? confusing? needing voice or word choice? Again, relate it to the writing traits and offer an example.
