Cool Samples for Us

What can we do to collaborate with others?  Let me count the ways...

1. Voice Thread

Collaborate with others in pictures, audio, and video.

An example from another class:

Why wash your hands?

An example from our class:

Yes We Can Serve

Our class started this Voice Thread ,and two other classes across the United States added their voices.

President Obama,

We can serve our country.

Grades 5, 6, and 8 considered President's Obama's call to service and chose to make a change and to serve their country.  Students from Wisconsin joined us.  This is a record to President Obama of how we will serve, started right here in Nespelem's writing class!.

Grades 5-8 and you! The Constitution --by and for us -- We the people. What change will you, the people, make to help President Obama lead our nation together, forward into the future?

2. Wiki Comments

Our friends at Presbyterian Day School in Memphis, Tennessee asked us questions, and we answered them in comments here on our Eagles Write site. Click the back button to return here.

3. Mapskip and Skype

The PDS students created essays and stories on a wiki and on Mapskip so our students could learn about Memphis, as their students had learned about our culture through dance and conversation through a computer video phone call using Skype. Their teacher, Mrs. Trefz, teaches writing in ways that engage students in authentic projects with 21st Century technology. She chose the Mapskip project which allows photos, audio, and text input on online maps. We are thankful she found such a wonderful way to share. Our students thoroughly enjoyed listening to her students’ voices and reading the power in their words; they quickly found similarities in sports, food, hobbies, music. In honor of their work, our students have begun commenting on the wonderful words and detailed information prepared by the PDS students. They are learning to take notes through highlighting and sticky notes in Diigo, so they can proofread their comments for Mapskip, using their writing skills in the “overly positive” attitude expected.

Here, you see my model, followed by a student completing his reading and commenting.
