Ryal: You're right. Let's use the board.

Vinick (writes mixed numbers)

Ryal: A mixed number is a fraction with a whole number and next to it.

Sager (writes definition on board)

Sager: (writes a mixed number) This is 2 1/4

Ryal: We need to make this arty. (draws 2 whole and 1/4 of same sized boxes) This is two wholes and this is one of out of four parts of the whole or 2 and 1/4

Vinick: How about 3 2/5 ?  (writes 3 2/5)

Ryal (draws 3 boxes) This is three whole pieces.   (draws 2/5 of same sized piece) This is two out of five parts of the whole piece.

Sager: So this is three

Vinick: And this is 2/5

Sager, Vinick, Ryal: These are mixed numbers.   (looks at camera)  Get it?
