Position Statement

Teachers Ms. Merrill and Ms. Edwards deserve the "Teachers of the Quarter" award for their aligned lessons, thorough resources, and adaptive lessons.

Paragraph 1 Persuasive Element
Have you ever had a teacher just tell you what the activity is? Ms. Merrill and Ms. Edwards provide thorough resources for students to understand the activity. First of all, eighty percent of the activites in Ms. Edwards's class include written handouts which provides directions, prewriting activities, examples, and checklists. This allows the students to track their work, practice and prepare for projects, and ask questions after the initial introduction. Next, Ms. Merrill's math courses include textbooks, handouts, and online resources. Dr. Ad M. Up states that, "Providing varied written, oral, and online resources greatly increases the chances for student success." Just yesterday, I pulled out my checklist in writing class so I could clarify my work and ask questions, and I checked online for how to work through my algebra steps. Every student appreciates these resources. Finally, both Ms. Edwards and Ms. Merrill explain the strategies or activities orally to the class and clarify to individuals as needed. Imagine the relief for students to have oral explanations, checklists and directions, textbooks, and online reviews and directions for projects that become more complext as the years advance. Therefore, Ms. Merrill and Ms. Edwards deserve the "Teachers of the Quarter Award" for providing and organizing these varied resources that help students succeed.
