Book, Movie, and Music Review Assignments

What is a book review?

A book or movie review includes:
- a summary without giving away the ending
- any awards
- the charaters (if a movie, what actors played which characters)
- the message (the theme) -- one sentence "big picture" -- example: "People should _________________"
- What is the main idea?
- Capture the message ("Hard work pays off." "People should get to know someone before they judge them."
- or use this sentence starter: "This book/movie showed me what it is like to ________________________.)
- the reason you liked or did not like the book/movie/tv show
- describe the favorite part, or example of why didn't like it
- include details!
- compare to a diferent book or movie
- recommendation
Structure of Book Review:
- First paragraph: Introduce title, author, plot.
- Second paragraph: Summarize the plot
- Third paragraph: Explain the message/theme
- Fourth paragraph: Reasons why liked/didn't like with evidence/example from book/movie
- Final paragraph: Give a comparison to another book/movie and your recommendation
